Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A sad man ("Speaker McCormack") drives a wagon ("LBJ Ranch Chuck Wagon"), while sitting on a seat ("Democrat's Vote on Powell, Rules Changes"). One donkey pulls the wagon, the other harness is empty. Caption: “The Boss Won't Be Happy When He Hears About Half the Team Running Away”. Additional text at lower right: “Milwaukee Journal”. Artist signature lower right: "R. A. Lewis”.

Historical NotePowell v McCormack was a Supreme Court case from 1969. Adam Clayton Powell was House Representative from New York. He was chairman of the Education and Labor Committee, but Speaker of the House John William McCormack made him leave the committee in 1967 and step down from his seat in Congress due to corruption charges.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
