Historical NotePresident Johnson signed several laws protecting air and water quality such as the 1963 Clean Air Act and the 1965 Water Quality Act that set standards for environmental quality and provided funding for pollution research. Senator Wayne Morse was a Democratic senator from Oregon. In 1964, he was only one of two senators that did not sign the Gulf of Tonkin resolution and he was a critic of the Johnson administration’s Vietnam policy.Additional Details
