Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A donkey is inside a fence calmly eating "Johnson Grass." Meanwhile, two elephants("Barry" and "Rocky") on the other side of the fence are fighting. Caption reads: "Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch--" Artist signature lower right: "Cal Alley."
Historical NoteDuring the 1964 election cycle, the Democratic Party was mostly united under Lyndon B. Johnson. Meanwhile, since Richard Nixon decided not to run in 1964, the Republican Party was divided between the conservative Barry Goldwater and liberal Nelson Rockefeller.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
