Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. On a door ("GOP Chairman Gerald Ford"), Ford’s last name is crossed out and replaced by another name ("Edsel"). Other things are listed on the door ("Bloopers Phony Accusations Blind-alley Binds on the hour"). Additional text at lower left: “The Nashville Tennessean 8-28-65”. Artist signature lower right: "Bissell”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: “To President Johnson who is known to prefer A. Lincoln Chas.”. Handwritten at upper right: [red] “Sat”.
Historical NoteIn January 1965, House Minority Leader Gerald Ford criticized the bombing of North Vietnamese supply lines in Laos and the lack of transparency in the Johnson administration about its Vietnam policy. The "Edsel" was a famously disastrous car model produced by the Ford Motor Company.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
