Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Two donkeys ("Liberals", "Conservatives") pull on the corners of a large Texas flag, tearing it down the middle. Caption: “Rally Around the Flag, Boys”. Artist signature lower right: "Herc Ficklen Dallas News”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at center right: "To President Lyndon B. Johnson with best wishes. Sincerely, Herc Ficklen". Handwritten at lower right: “1/14/68”.
Historical NoteDuring the 1960s, Texas Democrats faced division on the issues of segregation and economic policy. Eventually, the state became majority-Republican.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
