Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. An elephant, dressed as traveler, sees a "Washington City Limits" sign. He looks apprehensive as he envisions LBJ pulling on a dog's ears. The White House is seen in the background. Caption reads: "Elephants with Long Ears - Detour!". Artist signature lower right: "Holland". Additional text at lower right: "© 1964 by The Chicago Tribune.".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "To President Johnson, with best regrds - Ed Holland". Handwritten across bottom: "[circled] 44.5" "3 col. Wed. color" "[circled] OK [indecipherable]".
Historical NotePresident Johnson was known to lift his beagles by their ears.
