Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ rides a donkey ("Party Affairs") and calls back to three men ("Dissident Democratic Governors") who try to follow by holding the donkey's tail. Caption: “OK, Boys, You Can Help Steer”. Artist signature lower right: "R. A. Lewis Milwaukee Journal”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "For the LBJ stable from” [illegible] “R A Lewis".
Historical NoteThere was a lot of division within the Democratic party. Some Southern Democrats disagreed with President Johnson over segregation while other Democrats opposed the Vietnam War. As president, Johnson had to work with his political opponents to get legislation passed.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
