Caption: “Pierced Earrings--Just What Ah Needed!”. Additional text at lower left: “Ft. Dodge Messenger”. Artist signature lower right: "John Riedell”.

Historical NoteHarold E. Hughes was the governor of Iowa. Although he initially supported Lyndon Johnson during the 1964 election, he later disagreed with him over the Vietnam War.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
