Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A man (identifiable as Bill Moyers) speaks to LBJ who is startled when he looks out the White House window. A man (“Fulbright”) digs a foxhole and another man (“Morse”) mans a machine gun in a White House lawn foxhole. Caption: “Those Boys Sure Do Take Their Enclaves Seriously!”. Historical NoteJ. William Fulbright was a Democratic senator from Arkansas. He was the head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and supported detente policies. He became one of the loudest critics of the Johnson administration’s Vietnam policy. Senator Wayne Morse of Oregon was a Democratic senator that did not always vote along party lines. In 1964, he was one of only two senators that did not sign the Gulf of Tonkin resolution and he was a critic of the Johnson administration’s Vietnam policy. Bill Moyers was the White House Press Secretary from 1965-1967.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
