Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A man ("Sen. Fulbright") rides behind LBJ ("Commander-in-Chief") on donkeys. Fulbright thrusts his saber through LBJ. A man observes through the tall grass. Caption: “The War Party”. Artist signature lower right: "Sandeson”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across the bottom: "To President Johnson with the respect of Bill Sandeson". Handwritten at lower center: “5 ⅝”” “Mon.” [illegible] “Ed Cartoon”.
Historical NoteJ. William Fulbright was a Democratic senator from Arkansas. He was the head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and supported detente policies. He became one of the loudest critics of the Johnson administration’s Vietnam policy.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
