Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. A magician ("Congress Investigation") pulls bugs ("Republican Election Ways and Dirty Doing") from inside an elephant’s ("GOP") clothing. One of the bugs says, “Those Democratic congressmen are rough on us G.O.P. bugs”. Caption: “You'd Think a Fellow Would Know If He Had Those Things Crawling on Him”. Artist signature lower right: "S. J. Shaffer”.
Historical NoteSome Republican politicians were under investigation for suspected wiretapping. Several scandals at the time involved wiretapping including those of Bobby Baker, a protege of Lyndon Johnson's, in the fall of 1963.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
