Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Santa Claus (“Dem”) with donkey ears sits in one corner of a boxing ring facing an elephant ("GOP"). Santa has huge boxing gloves ("Tax Cuts - Medicare - Utopia" and "Great Society Goodies"). Additional text at lower left: “The Times-Picayune New Orleans Oct. 3, 1965". Artist signature lower right: "Temple”.

Historical NoteThe Johnson Administration submitted 87 bills to Congress, and Johnson signed 84, or 96%, arguably the most successful legislative agenda in US congressional history.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
