Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. An elephant says, "I see Moyers is leaving Johnson... there was Salinger, Reedy, Valenti, and now Moyers!". Another elephant whispers, "I hate to say I-told-you-so, but remember Lyndon's sister in an interview said he always was B-O-S-S-Y?". Caption: “Me-ow-w!”. Artist signature lower right: "Bert Whitman”.

Historical NotePresident Johnson had various staff members leave while he was in office. Pierre Salinger was President Kennedy’s press secretary and later served as press secretary for President Johnson until he left to run for the Senate in 1964. George Reedy was President Johnson's next press secretary, who served from 1964 to 1965 until he left due to disagreements over Johnson's Vietnam policy. Jack Valenti was an advisor to President Johnson. In 1966, he left the White House to be the president of the Motion Picture Association of America. Bill Moyers was the White House Press Secretary from 1965-1967. Rebekah Johnson Bobbit, the president's sister, once gave an interview to the press.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
