Physical DescriptionOriginal color cartoon drawing. A crying artist at a drawing board with discarded ear drawings ("Bobby", "Dick", "Hubert", "Gene", "Rocky") on the floor. He thinks: "I'm gonna miss those big, magnificent, liberal ears!". A large portrait drawing of LBJ is on the wall behind him. Caption reads: "To a Cartoonist He's EARresistable and EARreplaceable!" Artist signature lower right: "Lew Harsh The Scranton (PA) Times".
Historical NoteLyndon Johnson liked political cartoons of himself and invited political cartoonists and other press correspondents to his ranch for barbecues in 1964. Johnson also had features that were easy to caricature, such as his nose, ears, and chin, and along with his cowboy boots and hat, these characteristics gave him a recognizable look.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
