Physical DescriptionPhysical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. The moon’s surface has a US flag on it. A fire (“JFK”) is in front of the flag, with a brand (“LBJ”) in front of that. In front of the brand, is a plaque with signatures (“Armstrong”, “Collins”, “Aldrin,” and “Richard Nixon”). Artist signature lower right: "Flannery”.

Historical NoteOn July 20, 1969, as a part of the Apollo 11 mission, Neil Armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon. In this cartoon, while the certificate has Richard Nixon’s name on it, the two previous presidents’ contributions to the space race are acknowledged.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
