Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. An embarrassed bear with a hammer and sickle on his chest stands with his pants falling down because an eagle has flown away with his belt ("Soviet Space Superiority"). Caption: “Red Faced”. Artist signature lower left: "Bob Taylor”.
Historical NoteThe Space Race was the competition between the United States and the Soviet Union to further space exploration and technology out of fear of space being used for nuclear power.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
