LBJ says, "Here's a brand new model, Thurgood…fits you perfect…it's called the 'The Supreme.'". Artist signature lower right: "Sam Milai”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: “To Lyndon B. Johnson, the most courageous and greatest President in the history of the U.S.A. Sincerely,” “6/24/67”.
Historical NoteThurgood Marshall was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1967 by Lyndon Johnson. He was a NAACP lawyer and won the Brown v. Board of Education case.Additional Details
Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
