Two men ("Labor”, “Business") look at the easel critically. Caption: “Now I Know How Peter Hurd Felt”. Artist signature lower right: "Art Bimrose”.

Historical NoteWhen Lyndon Johnson saw his official White House portrait by Peter Hurd, he said it was the “ugliest thing I ever saw.” In 1966, President Johnson set up economic guide-posts to keep both wages and prices from rising more than 3.2% per year, but they did not stay that way.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
