Historical NoteWhen Lyndon Johnson saw his official White House portrait by Peter Hurd, he said it was the “ugliest thing I ever saw.” In 1966, President Johnson set up economic guide-posts to keep both wages and prices from rising more than 3.2% per year, but they did not stay that way.
