Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. At the top of the page two men ("Union" and "Management") sit at opposite ends of an extremely long table ("Steel Negotiations"). At the bottom the men sit speak in a small room at a coffee table as LBJ walks out the door. Caption reads: "There We Were, Then HE Stepped In----". Artist signature lower right: "Bil Canfield."

Historical NoteIn September 1965, Lyndon Johnson averted a steel strike by pressuring the United Steelworkers union under I. W. Abel and management under U.S. Steel Vice-President R. Conrad Cooper to come to an agreement of raising wages to $4.40 per hour with benefits.
