Historical NoteThe American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) is a federation of 60 unions formed in 1955. In 1958, the AFL-CIO announced a 10-point plan including raising the minimum wage from $1 to $1.25, loans, housing, civil rights, education aid, healthcare, unemployment benefits, farm legislation, and defense.
