Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ uses scissors ("R.R. Legislation") to trim his western hat into a railroad cap. Caption: “Ready to Ride the Rails!”. Artist signature lower left: "Sandeson”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across the bottom: "To - President Johnson with best wishes - Bill Sandeson".
Historical NoteIn September 1965, President Johnson signed the High-Speed Ground Transportation Act of 1965 to build high-speed railroads in the United States. It was inspired by the Japanese Shinkansen which opened in October 1964 and resulted in the creation of Metroliner and Acela Express.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
