Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ sits on a boxcar ("Compulsory Unionism"), holding a pencil and clipboard and counting "-16-17-18-19!". Four men leave the platform ("Civil Rights and a Freedom of Choice") and walk up a gangplank ("Repeal of 14-B") into the boxcar. Artist signature lower right: "Ralph Vinson”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at upper left: “438”. Handwritten at upper left: [blue] “States Editorial - Fri. Jan 21, 1966”. Handwritten at lower center: “5 ¾””.
Historical NoteIn 1965, President Johnson tried to end right-to-work laws in nineteen states, which would have resulted in the repeal of 14(b) of the Taft-Hartley Act. Right-to-work laws allow workers to choose not to join unions.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
