Historical NoteIn April 1964, President Johnson ended a 5-year dispute over railroad industry, giving a raise to about half of the workers in the union as well as other benefits and averting a strike. In March 1967, the National Farmers’ Organization withheld milk from the market for fifteen days to protest low prices for food. The Teamsters are a large union that represents many occupations. On March 7, 1967, former union president Jimmy Hoffa began his sentence in federal prison for various corruption charges. On April 11, 1967, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists strike reached a settlement resulting in higher weekly wages and overtime wages.
