Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. JFK shakes LBJ's hand heartily, with a big grin on his face. LBJ speaks with an expansive gesture of the left hand. Caption reads: "They Sure Were Glad to See Me.....And the Troops!" Artist signature lower right: "Jim Berryman Washington Star."
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across top: "3 cols - Tues. Aug - 22/'61"
Historical NoteVice-President Lyndon Johnson went to Berlin in August 1961, just a week after the construction of the Berlin Wall began. With him came almost 500 military vehicles into West Berlin.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
