Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ ("Trouble Shooter"), dressed as a cowboy with a badge, rides hurriedly on a horse. A road sign indicates he is traveling to "Berlin". He is riding away from a wooden building (H.Q.) where JFK is smiling at him from the porch. A view of Washington D.C. is seen in the background. Caption reads: "One Riot - One Ranger". Artist signature lower right: "Harold Maples".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across bottom: "Sunday Aug 20 '61" "[circled] 49".
Historical NoteThe Berlin Wall was constructed in August 1961 to separate the Soviet-occupied East Berlin from the Western-occupied West Berlin, restricting movement throughout the city. In response, President Kennedy sent Lyndon Johnson to deliver a message about Kennedy’s commitment to West Berlin.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
