Historical NoteSenator Lyndon Johnson met with Mexican president Adolfo López Mateos in 1958 in Acapulco and again in 1959 at his ranch, his only foreign policy experience at the time of his 1960 presidential run. This gave Johnson a good relationship with Mexico when he was vice-president and later president.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
