Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. Anguished blacksmith LBJ holds a finished sword in one hand over the anvil and a hammer in the other hand. He wears an apron and a furnace is behind him. He calls out "Plowshare, anyone..?? --Anyone?? --Anyone?!". Caption: “While the Iron Is Hot”. Artist signature lower right: "Alexander”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across the bottom: "To the President - with prayerful hopes for an early answer. Sincerely, F.O. Alexander Evening Bulletin Philadelphia.”. Handwritten at lower right: “2/10/67”.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
