Physical DescriptionPhysical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ’s jacket has bombs falling out of one sleeve (“Bombing Runs”) while the other sleeve (“Peace”) is touching the sleeve (“Agreements”) of another man (identifiable as Ho Chi Minh). Ho’s other sleeve ("War Continuance") has bullets falling out of it. They speak to each other (“Talks”). A small woman and child are in the pockets of each man. A small figure with a top hat in the lower right corner says “No problems with the ace on your left. But that joker on your right…”. Caption: “Let's Hope They Have Something up Their Other Sleeve!”. Artist signature lower right: "McKevin McVey Record Call (N.J.-N.Y.)”.
Historical NoteNorth Vietnam did not want to recognize the government of South Vietnam and had the goal of reunification, while South Vietnam did not recognize the National Liberation Front. Meanwhile, the United States followed Containment policy, hoping to keep Communism from diffusing to other Southeast Asian nations, and aimed to leave Vietnam without the humiliation of defeat.Additional Details
