Historical NotePanmunjom is a village located on the border between North and South Korea, within the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). It is the site where the 1953 Korean Armistice Agreement was signed, ending the Korean War, though a formal peace treaty has never been signed, and the two Koreas remain technically at war.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
