Historical NoteLyndon Johnson’s ability to persuade and push people into doing what he wanted was referred to as the Johnson Treatment. The credibility gap refers to the public skepticism about the Vietnam War due to a gap in what the Johnson administration officially told the public and what seemed to be true.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
