Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ holds a placard ("Free Elections") and speaks to a man (identifiable as Dean Rusk) as they watch Ky marching with his own placard ("Ky Elections"). A small piece of paper “1967, The Register and Tribune Syndicate” adhered to lower left. Caption: “​​Did We Lose Something in Translation?”. Artist signature lower left: "Wallmeyer Independent, Press Telegram".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "To President Lyndon B. Johnson, best wishes. Dick Wallmeyer".
Historical NoteIn September 1967, South Vietnam held an election resulting in the victory of Nguyen Van Theiu as president and Nguyen Cao Ky as vice president. The election brought an end to Ky’s term as prime minister in a military junta that governed South Vietnam since 1965. Dean Rusk was the Secretary of State.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
