Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ ("Commander-in-Chief U.S.A.") LBJ stands on some dark land with barbed wire("Vietnam") holding a damaged helmet. He looks back over his shoulder to see the origin of bullets ("Professional Liberals") coming from behind him. Caption reads: "Sniping from the Rear". Artist signature lower left: "Burris Jenkins".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across bottom: "We're with you, not behind you, Mr. President!! Burris Jenkins June 15, 1965 & Bill Hearst".
Historical NoteAnti-war “doves” included both people who opposed the war ideologically, considering it to be unjust, and people who just believed the war was unwinnable. Many doves were liberals. The number of doves increased over the course of the war.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1973.
