Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. George Washington stands in a boat on an icy river. In the boat with him are several long-haired men holding signs ("Let's scram the heck out of here", "We hope the Hessians win", "I'm a conscientious objector - honest I am -", "This is an intrusion on our acedemic freedom!", "We're for freedom - Go home", "Is this journey necessary?". Caption reads: "Double-Crossing the Delaware". Artist signature lower right: "Burris Jenkins with apologies to Leutze's painting".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten across bottom: "- 6 cols - 11 inches wide - 10am Saturday" "(please make 16 Glossy Proofs) Hold for Nat Classes Engraving room". Historical NoteThe Antiwar Movement (1964-1973) emerged in response to the Vietnam War and included many activist groups such as the Students for a Democratic Society and the Yippies and used tactics such as mass demonstrations, sit-ins, teach-ins, and guerilla theater.
