Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. With a mountain between them, LBJ waves an American flag at two men (identifiable as Mao Tse Tung and Ho Chi Minh). Next to him, a scruffy man (" ''Peace" Demonstrators") waves a white flag and says to LBJ, "They won't negotiate till you fly this one!" Caption reads: "You're Waving the Wrong Flag". Artist signature lower right: "Reg Manning [drawing of a cactus]". Additional text at lower left: "McNaught Syndicate, Inc.".
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower right: "Salute to a flag waver! Lyndon B. Johnson. Reg Manning [drawing of a cactus] 9-17-65". Handwritten and stamped across bottom: "(74)" "3 col" "Jun 17 1965 Mailing".
Historical NoteThe Antiwar Movement (1964-1973) emerged in response to the Vietnam War and included many activist groups such as the Students for a Democratic Society and the Yippies and used tactics such as mass demonstrations, sit-ins, teach-ins, and guerilla theater.
