Physical DescriptionTranslucent alabaster vase in a flared cylinder shape with 1/4-in overhanging rim. White with tan tones with burnt orange tone visible in fault lines. Mat finish.
Inscriptions and MarkingsUnder lip in faint black ink "25 11" and "33 H" and "5911;" "13" in pencil on mid section and 4 black ink numbers separated by vertical and horizontal lines "30/9/65/6" on bottom.
Historical NoteThis ceremonial vase was sent to Lady Bird Johnson by His Excellency and Mrs. Mohamed Anwar El Sadat, President of the National Assembly of the United Arab Republic and his wife on March 1, 1966. The vase is attributed to the reign of the pharaoh Djoser, circa 2700 B.C.E.

Custodial History NoteThis item was a gift from a foreign official to First Lady Lady Bird Johnson during the Johnson Administration. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
