Physical DescriptionCufflinks. 18K gold with two black opals in each in each cufflink, mounted in heavy nugget-textured cast wire cages joined by two chains. Each piece is stamped "GG B 18K."
Historical NoteThese cufflinks were given to President Lyndon B. Johnson by The Right Honorable Harold Edward Holt, Prime Minister of Australia on October 20, 1966, at a stop in Canberra, Australia during the President's 1966 Asia Trip. Opal is the national gemstone of Australia, which provides 95% of the world’s supply of precious opal.

Custodial History NoteThis item was a gift from a foreign official to President Lyndon B. Johnson during his term in office. It was received through the Executive Office of the President and maintained there until its transfer to the National Archives on January 1969 for deposit with the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum.
