Physical DescriptionPlain gold-tone tie bar with white/blue seal of USS Sam Rayburn attached. On the back is an alligator clip.
Historical NoteThis USS Sam Rayburn tie bar was given to President Johnson by H.G. Rickover, Admiral in the U.S. Navy. Sam Rayburn was a congressman from the state of Texas and served as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives until his death in 1961. He was a mentor to Lyndon B. Johnson during his early political career. Rayburn was instrumental to Lyndon Johnson's ascent to power, particularly his rapid rise to the position of Minority Leader.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
