Physical DescriptionWhite silk sleeveless appliqued evening gown with yellow net overdress and white and yellow shoulder drapes.
Historical NoteGrecian-born designer George Stavropoulos designed this gown for Lady Bird Johnson. Stavropoulos was heavily influenced by classic Greek sculpture, choosing to drape his flowing chiffon dresses in a similar manner. Lady Bird wore this dress for several offical occasions, including diplomatic receptions for Australia (June 1, 1967); Italy (September 18, 1967); Laos (October 20, 1967); and Thailand (May 8, 1968).
