Physical DescriptionPrint reproduction of cartoon drawing. LBJ lifts his shirt, showing a surgical scar resembling the shape of Vietnam. Artist signature lower right: "D. Levine”.
Inscriptions and MarkingsHandwritten at lower center: “For the collection of the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library” [illegible] “David Levine”.
Historical NoteOn October 8, 1965, President Johnson underwent gallbladder surgery at Bethesda Naval Hospital to remove gall stones. Lyndon Johnson's involvement in the Vietnam War attracted many criticisms from Republicans, Democrats, independents, politicians, common citizens, and the international community. The war impacted his legacy, thus leaving a scar.
