Historical NoteJohn Connally was former aide to Lyndon Johnson that later on became a governor of Texas. While being a Democrat, he supported Richard Nixon and was appointed Secretary of the Treasury. In 1973, he switched parties and became a Republican, and he ran for president in 1980. On March 21, 1980, Connally campaigned in New Hampshire.
