Historical NoteCollie Leroy Wilkins was a Ku Klux Klan member that murdered Viola Liuzzo during the Selma to Montgomery march in March 1965. Although he was initially acquitted of the murder, he would later be sentenced in December 1965 to 10 years in prison for different charges.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson personally, until the President donated it to the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum in 1970.
