Physical DescriptionCertificate of discharge from the Army of the Confederate States for John T. Grisham. Date of discharge is May 28th, 1862. Hand-written script on discolored paper with torn/irregular edges.
Historical NoteOn May 28, 1862, Private John T Grisham (35) of Company B, 17th Regiment of Texas Cavalry, was discharged from the Confederate Army in accordance with the Confederate “Conscript Act” which provided members of the Confederate armed forces 35 years of age or older to be mustered out of the service as soon as a draftee was available to replace them. Grisham left the Confederate army without seeing combat and returned to his home in Tennessee.
