Physical DescriptionOriginal cartoon drawing. LBJ tames four lions ("USSR”, “China”, “N. Vietnam”, and “Viet Cong") with a whip and gun. He tries to kick off a small dog ("Dominican Republic") biting his foot. Caption: “Almost Forgot About That One!”. Artist signature lower left: "De Alba.”.
Historical NoteIn April 1965, the Dominican Revolutionary Party installed a president in the National Palace. In response, President Johnson sent Marines to the Dominican Republic to evacuate American citizens from the country, end the civil war, and establish a conservative Reformist Party government. However, at the same time, Johnson was threatened by his Cold War rivals, the Soviet Union and China, and fought a war in Vietnam.

Custodial History NoteThe item was a gift from the general public to President Johnson during his term in office. It was received by President Johnson, until the President donated it to the Lyndon B Johnson Presidential Library in 1973.
