William "W.A.C." Bennett was the longest-serving premier in British Columbia. Bennett began his political career after being elected as the provincial member of parliament for South Okanagan in 1937, 1945, and 1949. As a member of the Social Credit League, Bennet was elected Premier of British Columbia in 1952 and was re-elected consecutively until 1972, when he was lost against New Democratic nominee Dave Barrett.
