Charles Bissell was a cartoonist who was hearing impaired that worked for the Tenessean Sunday Magazine from 1943 to 1996. Bissell was promoted to art director in 1945, and a few decades later he created “Bissell’s Brave New World,” which was published until 1976. Bissell has recieved several awards including the Cartoon Award from the National Headliners Club, a Distinguished Service Award from Sigma Delta Chi, and the Public Service Award from the National Safety Council.
