Gerald D. Barfuss was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1942. He earned a master of fine arts degree from the University of Minnesota. After teaching in St. Anthony for five years, Barfuss taught art at Jackson Junior High in Champlin from 1968 to 1992. In 1983, Barfuss published "David Stone in Sunset Valley: The Story of the KSTP Barn Dance" and pursued a variety of activities, including creating a comic strip for a regional publication and working as a freelance artist.
