Bob Eckhardt

United States, 1913 - 2001
Eckhardt was a 14-year congressman from Houston’s 8th congressional district. Despite the prevalence of oil and gas interests in his district, he promoted deregulation of natural gas and authored legislation on price controls for oil. He championed civil rights and labor issues. An attorney, he practiced labor law. He also served in the Texas House of Representatives for eight years and authored the Texas Open Beaches Act.
