Frank Knox

Frank Knox fought in the army during World War I with the American Expeditionary Force's Seventy-eighth Division (1917-1919). After serving several positions as an army officer and newspaper publisher, Knox campaigned under Alf Landon as his vice-presidential candidate in 1936. Knox was defeated by Democratic vice-presidential nominee John Garner but was appointed as the Secretary of the Navy by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1940.
