Dawes’ career spanned both business/finance and public service. After military service and a stint as Director of Budget for the country, he headed up a commission for the League of Nations in which he tackled the issue of German reparations. For his work to smooth and resolve thorny financial issues surrounding Germany post- WWI, Dawes was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1925. From 1925 to 1929, he served as vice president of the United States. He was also named Ambassador to Great Britain from 1929-1932.
