Thomas Dewey served three terms as the Governor of New York from 1943 to 1954. Dewey was elected as the Republican presidential nominee in 1944 and 1945. He lost both times to Democratic nominated candidates Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman respectively.
